Inner Conversations

Neville Goddard used inner conversations for the silent exchanges a person rehearses throughout the day. These exchanges reveal the assumptions already in place. An inward argument, complaint, or explanation can continue even when no outer conversation is taking place.

His instruction was to notice that speech and replace it with dialogue that would be natural after the desired change. A student might hear congratulations, agreement, or an ordinary remark that implies completion. Neville called the discipline of choosing and redirecting inner speech a mental diet. It can be practiced during the day or included in an imaginal scene near sleep.
